Polish is the official language of Poland. However, it is also used as a second language in some parts of Lithuania, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. The Polish language belongs to the West-Slavic group of the Indo-European languages. Polish shares some Latin grammar and vocabulary, but is a very distinct language on its own. With access to certified translators and experienced interpreters, we here at Languages in Motion can help bridge the divide between you and Polish communities with our services. From Polish to English and vice-versa, as well as many other Polish language combinations, we’re ready to help you.
Polish is a West Slavic language with approximately over 55 million native speakers (with about 40 million speakers in Poland) across the world. However, the Polish language stands apart from other Slavic languages as it is based on modified Latin alphabet, rather than the traditional Slavic Cyrillic alphabet. According to language experts, there are around 200,000 words in Polish, which is significantly larger than English. Yet, despite the differences, around a quarter of the words still sound and are pronounced in their old Slavic tones. Around one third of the language includes words which are foreign adoptions of some form.
According to the U.S. Foreign Services Institute – which classifies languages based on their difficulty for native English speakers – Polish is ranked four out of five, making it significantly difficult to learn and communicate. Our certified translators and interpreters can help you overcome this issue.
